We take for granted turn a tap on and there it is - Water. The people we look to help in Ghana, walk up to 5 miles a day to get what we would only flush down a drain. Children often have to walk to school similar distances with no shoes or Flip Flops at best.

The drinking water supply and sanitation sector in Ghana faces a number of challenges, including very limited access to sanitation, intermittent supply, high water losses and low water pressure.

To improve the quality of their lives and education, the plans are to drill wells in their villages and schools and give them shoes to walk to school.

Ghana is one of the most densely populated countries in West Africa. Since the adoption of a new constitution in 1993, Ghana has become more politically stable, but a history of coups, food shortages and corruption means the country remains poor and indebted.

The three northern regions are particularly deprived, with one in ten children dying before their fifth birthday. 80% of all diseases in Ghana are caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation and more than three million people don't have access to safe drinking water. Only around 13% of the population have access to adequate sanitation facilities.
